Security: Protecting Chattel

Steve would like to offer you some tips on protecting your chattel.

Ten secure places which would greatly reduce your risk of theft.

1. A major bank safety deposit box.
2. High security UL-TRTL30x6 rated safe.
3. Hidden in your home.
4. Hidden UL-rated floor safe.
5. Fake electrical outlet.

1. Stored in an off-site UL-rated safe, in a UL-rated alarmed office.
2. Underground alarmed safe.
3. Air vent secret compartment (Made in a way that Repair people will not discover)
4. A secured depositor.

Ten places where not to hide or store your chattel.

1. Master Bathroom: In a fancy jewelry box or in the vanity. The thief will appreciate that you organized all of your jewels for him to take.
2. Master Closet: You’re not fooling anyone by hiding your jewelry in jackets, shoes, and clothing pockets out of sight. An experienced thief will know just where to look. “They will never find my rings. I stuffed them in Kleenex and hid them in my clothes.” Boy was she wrong…
3. Store Bought Hiding Cans: This may fool the thief but the housekeeper or friendly mother-in-law may throw it out along with your $100k diamond ring.
4. Pill Jars in the Bathroom Vanity: Easily found by a thief or thrown out by a housekeeper.
5. Small Portable Fire Safe: Thieves will get tipped off by a housekeeper or repairman and come take the whole safe out of your home.
6. Wall Safe Behind a Picture: It could be great, unless a guest or housekeeper have access to the room possibly leading to a thief cutting it right out of the wall.
7. Inside of Another Item: You shouldn’t hide your chattel inside another item that someone may want to steal, such as a TV or computer.
8. Mixed in with Costume Jewelry: A thief may steal the whole parcel to look through later.
9. Under a Mattress: This is one of the first places a thief looks and it offers no insider protection.
10. Cars or Hotel Rooms: Valuables left in parked cars and hotel rooms are always at risk, no matter how well they are hidden.
